What is your dream job? Did you know that when you apply for your dream job, they may actually check out your online presence long before you come in for an interview? In fact, some employers today are making their interviewing and hiring decisions based on what they find in online profiles.

Do you make a lot of comments about your coworkers on your Facebook profile? This can hurt you, even if those comments are positive. Negative comments will hurt you in your job hunt the most. However, if you are constantly posting about coworkers, potential employees may see it as a problem with work/life balance.

Keep an Eye on Your Pictures

Be careful about the pictures you post on your online profiles. Do you have a lot of sexy pictures? Are you going out and getting drunk weekly, and displaying the proof with an image? Potential employers look at your photo albums to get an idea of what kind of person you are. They will judge you by the pictures you post.

What Does Your Blog Say About You?

Do you have a blog? If so, take a look at it with a critical eye. Is it going to come off in a negative light to an employer? Does it have to do with the industry you are trying to get into? If you are already writing and discussing things in the industry you hope to work within, this can be a huge benefit for you. However, make sure that you haven’t ever talked badly about the company you want to work for.

Do a Search for Yourself

Have you ever searched your own name on any of the major search engines? Go ahead and do it. You may be surprised at what comes up. However, if you are job hunting, you need to know what employers will see. They will look at the results that come up in a Google search and they will make decisions about you based on these results.

How Friendly Are You?

Believe it or not, a potential employer is going to look at how many friends you have on your social accounts. If you have too many or too few it can hurt you in the long run. Too many friends says that you try too hard. Too few friends gives the impression that you aren’t easy to get along with. However, knowing the “right” number is impossible. It’s different for everyone, which makes it really hard on the employee.

Do You Have Mood Swings?

Are you constantly posting about how you are depressed? Or are you up one moment and down the next? Employers are going to notice this and may throw your résumé out because of it. Make sure that your posts are not constantly full of emotional extremes.
