7 Things You Need to Know about the Upcoming TMNT Movie

By on April 25, 2013

Are you a big TMNT fan? If so, you’re in for a treat. The turtles are set to hit the big screen very soon, and with a few surprises in store. Want to get in the know? Check out these interesting facts.

Michael Bay is at the helm. Whether you know it off hand or not, you are most likely already familiar with Michael Bay. Bay is known for spectacular visual effects in big budget films like the Transformers series, and there is no doubt he has some unforgettable imagery in his upcoming TMNT film.

The reboot. This new movie is being called a “reboot” because it is apparently different from any other TMNT movie you’ve ever seen. Bay is said to have taken quite a bit of artistic liberties with his plot line choices, and loyal TMNT fans are sitting on the edges of their seats to find out how the reboot will play out.

No longer teenagers. So, what’s new with the rebooted version of the turtles? For starters, they are no longer teenagers. It seems they’ve done some growing up. The actors cast to play them are in their late 20’s and 30’s, so we can only imagine how that might change up the story. At least we know that the title has changed: It is now simply Ninja Turtles.

New beginnings. One major change that the reboot has in store for us is the turtles’ beginnings. Anyone who is familiar with the TMNT story knows that these four lovable green guys were mutant products of a chemical sledge that spilled into the sewers of New York City. Well, that’s no longer true. Our favorite amphibians are actually an alien race. We’ll have to wait to see how this plays out.

Fox as O’Neal. The media was shocked to find that Michael Bay and Megan Fox apparently buried the hatchet to film this likely box office smash. Fox is slated to star as none other than–you guessed it–best friend to the turtles and appraised newscaster (and part time sleuth), April O’Neal.

The turtles. As previously mentioned, the turtles are already cast. The actors that are slated to fill the shoes of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello are Pete Plozsek, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, and Jeremy Howard, respectively. While these aren’t necessarily big names as of now, you can be sure to see these stars shoot to the top if the longstanding popularity of TMNT has anything to do with it.

Where is Kevin Eastman in all of this? Eastman is the original creator of the TMNT, so you might be surprised to find that he’s actually fully supportive of Bay’s intended changes, and stands right beside him in production.

As you can probably guess, the new TMNT movie, Ninja Turtles, is already causing quite a stir among turtle fans across the globe and you can read more  here about the release. If you can’t wait to get in on the action, you should be pleased to know that the turtles will be coming to a theater near you this very summer!
